Benefits of Consistent Essential Oil Use With Your Dog

Today I want to share an experience I had with my older border collie True. Next month she will be 14.

She has been an amazing dog for all her years, she was my go-to girl for working with reactive dogs, always on point with her body language, helping others be at ease while they learn how to be around others dogs and interact appropriately, she excelled in agility, obedience, rally, and herding. I am truly blessed that she is my girl.

Now that she is older, she does have some health concerns that we keep a very close eye on.

She is under veterinary care for her seizures, she gets twice per day medication (you can read up on that scary night on Blog #15) plus age has brought with it season allergies and age-related aches and pains. I use my doTERRA essential oils daily for support with excellent results.

Over the years I have randomly fasted my dogs for a 24-hour period (basically no breakfast or dinner for one day), for all the same reasons that people fast…to help reduce toxic load, immune boost, allowing the digestive system to rest, basically allowing the body to have a reset.

Her twice per day medication can be taken without food, so I was not worried.

What I did not take into consideration is that I give her oils in her food. So, fasting meant that I didn’t give her her oils. Shouldn’t have been a big deal, right? I was so WRONG!

It didn’t even dawn on me…… fast forward to mid-day and all of a sudden, I noticed she was hobbling around, not like an injury, but like when you overdo it at the gym and your legs just don’t work quite right. Actually come to think about it…that is how I feel today after my hubby Chris and I spent the entire weekend drywalling and painting my new training studio….you know that feeling.

So, my normally active senior dog then slept the entire afternoon, to wake up and hobble around some more.

By early evening I was actually getting worried, and was racking my brain trying to figure out what had happened to cause her so much discomfort….again it never dawned on me that she didn’t get her oils.

I decided that she was so miserable that I would feed her dinner (that made the others thrilled by the way LOL) and of course, by making dinner, I added in all her normal EO’s.

Which include: Frankincense, Copaiba, DDR Prime, Zendocrine, Turmeric, Lavender, and others as needed. But those 6 are primaries that she gets every day.

After feeding her an early dinner (I normally feed late, like 9:30-10 due to my schedule), about 20-30 minutes later she was up bothering me to go outside.

Which of course we did, where she grabbed the ball and wanted to play.

It was that moment that the light bulb went on in my head….THE OILS!

This was such a stark reminder of how impactful daily, consistent use is when it comes to using our doTERRA essential oils.

Oils do not build up in the system, there is no time release. That is why consistent use is so important when dealing with chronic issues. I have known this for years, it is not a new concept, but THIS…this was an eye-opener for me.

Sometimes things happen for a reason, of course, the last thing I want to see is one of my dogs uncomfortable.

But this did remind me how important our oils are in our lives and regardless of what the future brings, doTERRA will always be part of it.

So, I have to share….with this happening and me being aware, I have actually started to give her copaiba on a cookie between meals, and doing so has made an even greater positive impact for her.

That’s my share for todays Training Tuesday, remember consistency is the key to success in ALL that we do in life, in business, and in our oil use!
